How it Works

  • Application & Evaluation: The application process is managed through the AIVIA™ Evaluator. For each internship session, specific projects are assigned to applicants as part of the evaluation process.

  • Project Selection: Team leads can choose a research paper to work on that aligns with one of our project categories. This ensures that every project is grounded in real-world, peer-reviewed methodologies.

  • Phased Project Process: Each project follows a three-phase structure—Replicate, Extend, and Present—providing clear milestones and measurable outcomes. This structured approach not only validates your technical skills but also offers a comprehensive learning experience and tangible results to showcase.

  • Paid Lead Position: Outstanding leads who qualify as experts receive a paid position. As a lead, you’ll coordinate team efforts, guide project work, and ensure that the project meets predefined milestones. Your role includes organizing at least two team meetings per phase, overseeing deliverable progress, and providing mentorship—all while earning a guaranteed base payment (with potential bonuses based on performance).

  • Collaborative Experience: Once onboard, you’ll participate in free pre-internship training and receive continuous mentoring from our Mentor Chains®. The structured three-phase process offers clear milestones and measurable outcomes that drive your growth and success.

Experience a reimagined internship model designed to prepare you for industry challenges while rewarding leadership and initiative.

  • Paid Lead Positions: Qualified leads receive competitive compensation, select the exact internship weeks that work for them, and report directly to STEM-Away mentors. Note: Leads are classified as independent contractors.

  • Merit-Based Automated Acceptance: Once you pass an AIVIA Evaluation on a project tied to an upcoming internship opportunity, your project dashboard will automatically activate the “Apply” button -confirming your eligibility to join. Please note that any request to bypass the standard application process will not be entertained. Additionally, random second-level prescreening may be conducted for further validation.

  • Two-Phase Acceptance Process: We first confirm team leads before opening applications to participants, ensuring every team is built on a strong foundation.

  • Structured Three-Phase Framework: Each project is based on a research paper and follows a clear progression—Replicate, Extend, and Present—providing measurable milestones and tangible outcomes.

  • Important Notice: STEM-Away Virtual-Internships provide valuable experience and a certificate of completion. For participants in paid lead roles, STEM-Away will perform work verification once per lead as part of the contractual process—enhancing the credibility of your resume. Please note that this one-time verification service is exclusive to designated leads; external work verification requests for non-leads will NOT be honored.
