  • How are individual contributions reflected in certificates?
    • Answer: Certificates specifically indicate the deliverables each individual has contributed to, ensuring transparency and fairness in acknowledging each member’s efforts.
  • How does the Automated Team Formation work?
    • Answer: Teams are formed based on a combination of factors including evaluation results, choice of roles, logistical details, and desired outcomes, ensuring each team has a balanced mix of talents for effective collaboration.
  • Can I get academic credit for the virtual-internship?
    • Answer: If your school or college awards academic credits for internships, we can collaborate with your institution to arrange academic credits for your participation. All accepted interns will receive a standard offer letter; please note that we cannot accommodate individualized offer letter requests.

NOTE: Academic credit applies to STEM-Away teams only. Members working solo or in their own teams cannot apply for academic credit.

  • Do I need work authorization for these internships?
    • Answer: No, you don’t need US work authorization to participate as these are educational internships.
  • Are these client projects?
    • Answer: No, STEM-Away® projects are not client-based; there is no delivery commitment from intern teams.
  • Can international students participate in the Virtual-Internships?
    • Answer: Absolutely! We encourage international participation and have designed our Virtual-Internships to be globally inclusive, especially benefiting students from regions with limited access to STEM opportunities.
  • What is the evaluation process?
    • Answer: The evaluation process is designed to ensure participants are well-prepared for their internship roles. It involves:
      • Initial Step: Participants take a multiple-choice test by clicking the evaluation button on their chosen project. A minimum score of 8 is required to advance.
      • Next Round: Successful candidates then engage in a chat session with the AIVIA mentor. This session is assessed via NLP analysis to evaluate their readiness and suitability for advanced project roles and additional benefits.
  • What is the cost of participation?
    • Answer: Free mentorship is provided for members accepted to the program. However, evaluation requires tacks, which can be earned through active participation or purchased at store.stemaway.com.

  • How is the time commitment determined for these virtual-internships?

    • Answer: You can select your preferred time commitment during the team formation process. While there’s no fixed schedule, the value you gain correlates directly to the effort you put in. Your certificate will reflect your specific contributions and achievements during the internship.
  • How are meeting times decided?

    • Answer:
      • Team Meetings: Scheduled by team leads based on team member availability. Teams can use STEM-Away® chat channels or other platforms to facilitate these meetings.
      • Mentor-Led Meetings: Scheduled between 7 AM to 7 PM Pacific Time to accommodate a broad range of participants. Meeting minutes are shared with the team, and forums are used extensively to minimize conflicts.
  • Can I blog about my team experience during the internship?

    • Answer: Definitely! We encourage blogging about your experience, and top blogs may be showcased on our social media platforms.
