Posting all my self-assessments for the Level 2 track on this thread!
Modules 1 & 2
This is a bit late, but the past two weeks have been a bit of a whirl for me. I’ve been working full-time (yay for a job), so that’s been a bit time-consuming. However, I’m actively going to catch up!
Overview of Things Learned
Technical
- R and RStudio (brushed up on some syntax)
- Reading technical papers. I haven’t read a scientific paper since I was a student last year, so I had to get back into that analytical mindset.
Tools
- R
- RStudio
- STEM-Away platform and resources hidden all around
Soft skills
- Communication with project leads
- Time management to allocate a window to catching up
- Researching and literature searches
Three Achievements
- Reviewed background on bioinformatics and the big idea of differential expression. I last studied these topics last summer when I was a level 1 intern, so revisiting these topics refreshed my understanding.
- Followed an example to create a quick R Shiny application!
- Went through a lot of statistics videos. I love learning about statistics, but the intuition side is sometimes a bit lost on me.
Goals for the Upcoming Week
- Keep on track with the project timeline
- Communicate with teammates
- Finish going through the prerequisites L1M2 and L1M3.
Detailed Tasks Statement
- Walked through internships.stemaway.com and caught up to Module 3. Reviewed most of the links that were attached in the module recaps.
- Went through meeting recordings on 2x speed.
- Followed an R Shiny tutorial.
